ARTIST STATMENT
As A Child, You Will Find Every Aspect Of Your World Strange And Yet Fascinating At The Same Time.
As that same child grows up and starts to comprehend the world, that feeling of mystery and wonder is lost and replaced by reality. Imagination, creativity, and fantasy are not common traits you find in most adults these days. My work is inspired by ideas of mystery, fantasy and the unknown. My goal is to excite the mind, explore the world, find the real in fantasy and find the mystery in what is real.
Most people go about their everyday lives not concerned about what more is out there to explore in the universe or even on our very planet. There is much debate around the topic of other worlds similar to ours. Or if our dimension is the only one. Many movies and tv shows, such as Avatar, Star Trek, or even books like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson deal with this idea of fantasy and the “other” as the base of inspiration. Similarily, my paintings, photographs, digital artwork and clothing items focus on these ideas and bring them to life. My pieces transcend the physical world we live in falling somewhere within the small yet massive world of the in-between/parallel.
By taking aspects of structure -surrealism, abstraction and romanticism, I create micro-tears in our universe with my pieces to engulf the viewers in the unknown. I transform pictures you would see in everyday life by placing them in mythical settings that may seem unrealistic to our minds. My work strives to stimulate the brain through brush strokes, clicks, stitches, and vibrant colour patches which paints familiar pictures in abstract or overly romanticized ways that are almost uncanny.
As an artist, I find satisfaction and beauty in creating pieces of people or places that do not fit in the conventional norm. Pieces that provoke thought and push people to imagine the impossible and what life be like if these places or people were real?
