Urban Renaissance is a creative photo collaboration. It was created and directed by Creative Director Avery Doreen, founder of Milk & Honey, and shot by amazing photographer Jeremie Ngandu. For this collaboration, I handmade 6 items of clothing all covered in the “blue” section of the portfolio. The full photoshoot can be seen on the Milk & Honey Instagram page @by.mxh
URBAN RENAISSANCE
The Renaissance was a fervent period of European cultural, artistic, political and economic “rebirth” following the Middle Ages. Generally described as taking place from the 14th century to the 17th century, the Renaissance promoted the rediscovery of classical philosophy, literature and art.
Urban is an extremely modern term.
Urban - relating to, or characteristic of a town or city; denoting or relating to popular dance music associated with black performers.
“The intention is to highlight the elegance that has come from “urban” culture mixing with what is a predominantly white “upper class” culture within North America.” - Avery Doreen
While I was making these pieces I wanted to play with the modern version of the fabric that would have been used during the Renaissance period in history while fussing it with some more modern elegant silhouettes you see today on men and women.
